Lines from Larry ... 1

My friend Larry used to say some funny stuff ... and he had a lot of it saved in print. Of course, he didn't develop all (or any) of it himself <-- (note disclaimer!) but it's still pretty funny. So I'm putting things out here every once in awhile just because I feel like it. And, FYI if you haven't heard, Larry died in a car accident on December 13, 2007. Here's the first one:

"I used to think the brain was the most wonderful organ in the body. Then I realized who was telling me that."

New Year, New PC Updates

Yes, I've spent time and a little cash on my PC again. This time it's the Toshiba tablet that I've updated. The processor is pretty good but I didn't have much in the way of RAM so I upgraded it to 2 GB and also doubled the harddrive size to 160 GB (and a much faster 7200 RPM drive). Seems to be working fine now but the true test will come when I start manipulating significantly sized files (like pictures or DVD video). I don't do a heck of a lot of that stuff but it's nice to have a bit more capability whenever I do. Besides, it's kinda fun to mess with PC's. Still haven't made the plunge to get a Mac and make a dual boot machine (but I did buy a copy of WinXP for the dual boot ... really don't want to mess with the whole Vista bloatware thing).

Plan to go out dancing tomorrow night (somewhere in Davenport) and probably have dinner out as well. Meanwhile, tonight, although it is Friday, may just be a "stay in" night as I'm pretty tired and feeling like a cold is in the offing here.

New Skis for the New Year

Well, I did follow up and bought some new cross country skis from Scheels down in Iowa City on the last day of 2007. Tested them out on New Year's Day and I'm very happy with them. Was a bit worried about the boots but they do feel good and they are just roomy enough for extra socks if needed. It was pretty cold out for skiing (about 9 degrees) yesterday and a bit windy too. It was a good test and I can tell that extra socks will be needed if staying out more than 30-50 minutes at a time (yesterday was about 40 minutes) at these colder temperatures. Well, it should warm up by the weekend (into the 30's) so that there should be some much more comfortable opportunities to check out the local skiing areas (Ellis golf course and Squaw Creek park, among possible others).

Great start to the new year! ... cyal8tr.
